40th Annual Snodeo Winter Kick-Off

December 9-11th will kick-off the 40th annual Snodeo event held in Old Forge and surrounding communities. It celebrates the opening of the snowmobile trail system and the beginning of the winter season in the Adirondacks! For many, it is a weekend to open up “camp” and trailer their snowmobiles and other toys up north. Winter sports in the Adirondacks have always been a favorite among visitors and locals. While many dread the cold, snowy upstate winters, Old Forge can’t wait for it! With the snowmobile trails open as well as skiing at McCauley Mountain, ice skating at Fern Park, and snowshoeing available, the winter activities are endless.

Snodeo events will take place all weekend at the North Street Pavilion located on North Street just south of Water Safari. Some of the highlighted events include a Vintage Snowmobile Show, Kitty-Kat and 120cc races, photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and much more! Also, look forward to a raffle drawing at 1 p.m. on Sunday with a first place prize of a brand new 2017 snowmobile of your choice!

In addition to the amazing activities at the North Street Pavilion, there will also be lots going on around town. Local restaurants and bars will be hosting snowmobile parties, highlighting the new models of 2017. There will be great live music accompanied with excited and anxious snowmobilers looking to celebrate the beginning of the winter season! After last years’ mild winter, many were discouraged with the lack of snow. According the 2017 Farmer’s Almanac, however, they have lots to look forward to this season. It advises to “get the snow blowers ready in the east” as they predict lots and lots of snow!

We look forward to a great winter season in Old Forge and hope that you all have a chance to come play in our outdoor playground! For additional information on Snodeo, please call the Central Adirondack Association at (315)-369-6983.
