Lake Placid, NY Village

The village sits right on the shore of Mirror Lake, a non-motorized boat lake that is quiet and peaceful to canoe, kayak sail or swim in. Lake Placid itself is a sight to see, surrounded by mountains, and anchored by the backside of Whiteface Mountain. The shores of Lake Placid are adorned with some of the Adirondack Park’s most beautiful and historic estates, grandeur and style hailing from the Gilded Age and before, when the wealthy would travel here by train with their entourage and stay for weeks at a time, never leaving their camps and enjoying the “forever wild” Adirondack experience.
Main Street in Lake Placid is one of America’s most charming, with a wide array of fine retail and independent stores, great restaurants and varied cuisine, and an international feel reminiscent of an alpine town in Switzerland.
The town puts on events throughout the year, from fireworks and a festival around the Fourth of July holiday to horseback riding and lacrosse tournament weekends, to several arts and cultural shows. Lake Placid also plays host to the annual Ironman triathlon every July, bringing in world-class athletes from all over the globe.
