Lake Placid was made famous by hosting 2 Winter Olympics, in 1932 and again in 1980. The famed Whiteface Mountain is in Lake Placid. Whiteface Mountain boasts the largest vertical drop of any alpine ski mountain in the East. The town hosts winter carnival and events at the Olympic Center throughout the year.
