Historic Sale Of Texas Ranch Announced For Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliate
Sotheby’s International Realty announced this week the historic $725 million sale of the W.T.Waggoner Estate Ranch in Vernon, Texas. The property was purchased by Stan Kroenke, a professional sports owner and rancher, and his wife, Anne Walton Kroenke, billionaire niece to Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart. Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Real Estate, a Sotheby’s affiliate held the listing.
The estate spans across 6 Texas counties and covers 535,000 acres. Founded and owned by the same family since 1849, the property includes 1,ooo producing oil wells, 30,000 acres of farmland, thousands of cattle, and hundreds of horses.
The ranch was put on the market in 2014 with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Real Estate agent Bernard Uechtritz as the listing agent and the one to finalize the deal. Marketing ramped up in January of 2015. He was quoted as saying that there was much international interest.
Bradley Wharton, a representative of the Wharton heirs to the Waggoner Ranch, was quoted as saying, “Amid an emotional and, at times, trying sale process, we never lost sight of what we wanted in a new owner of this historic property: a keen sense of tradition, a love of the land, and loyalty to the people who work here. Measured by these standards, we are confident that Stan will be a great steward of the Waggoner legacy going forward.” (source)
